- Before commencing work, a thorough site survey will be conducted to identify existing services (electrical, gas, water, data, fire suppression) and structural elements.
- Where work is to be carried out near existing live electrical services, these will be isolated and proven dead by a competent person (e.g., Authorised Person/AP) using a suitable proving unit and test equipment, in accordance with the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989. Lock-off and tag-out procedures will be implemented.
- Any existing services that cannot be isolated will be clearly identified, marked, and protected to prevent accidental contact or damage.
- Identify suitable routes for cable runs and containment, ensuring adequate clearance from other services and structural elements.
3. Establish Safe Working Area
- Define and secure the work area using appropriate barriers, signage (e.g., "Work in Progress," "Caution – Trip Hazard"), and warning tape to prevent unauthorised access by other personnel or the public.
